XML is widely used for data exchange. For a large scale diagram, it will be convenient to partially copy diagram content to other application. Now you will be able to copy model elements as XML, which further enhances the interoperability with other applications.
In Visual Paradigm Suite 3.3, particular model elements can be copied as XML. It provides a more flexible usage when compared to the export function for entire diagram. In the following sections, we will show you how to copy model element as XML from a diagram and reuse it.
Copy Element as XMLWe have a sample project as below, let's copy Manager, Customer Service and Register Customer as XML. Select the target model elements on the diagram.
Select Edit > Copy > To Clipboard as XML in the Main Menu.
Then, you can open a text editor to paste the copied XML.
Then save it as an XML file, enter the name of the XML file. Remember to enter the extension .xml after the name you entered.
After that, click Save to save the file.
Import Copied XML into ProjectWhen you have copy the model elements as XML, you can easily re-use the model elements into a project. We have an empty project file here. To import the XML file, select File > Import > XML... in the Main Menu.
In the Import XML dialog box, locate the XML file to be imported. Then click OK to proceed import.
A message will show when the import process is completed, click Close to close the message.
We can see that the models are imported into the project. Note: In this case, as Customer Service is copied, all its children on the diagram are copied as well. That's why Contact Customer and Delete Customer Record are also copied.
